7 Delicious Recipes for Labor Day Grilling

Labor Day is just around the corner and school will soon be in full swing! To end summer with a bang, break out the grill and enjoy the fresh grilled taste of your favorite game. Here are seven must-try game grilling recipes for Labor Day, sure to please carnivores of every stripe.

1. Bacon Wrapped Venison Rolls

Nothing beats the taste of grilled venison. How about some fresh grilled venison wrapped in bacon?


  • 12 ounces bacon
  • 1lb. venison, cut into 4 inch strips
  • 12 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped
  • 1 cup vinaigrette salad dressing
  • 1 cup Worcestershire sauce

Soak venison in mixture of vinaigrette salad dressing and Worcestershire sauce overnight. Roll meat strips around small chunk of cream cheese and pepper. Wrap in bacon and use skewers to hold together while grilling.

2. The Best Grilled Trout Recipe You’ll Ever Try


  • 6-4oz. trout filets
  • 1 quart water
  • ½ cup salt
  • ¾ cup honey
  • ¾ cup dark rum
  • ¼ cup lemon juice

Mix all ingredients except trout, until everything dissolves. Soak trout filets 1 hour before grilling.

3. Benny’s Famous Dove Sticks


  • Dove breasts, 2-4, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
  • 12 mushrooms
  • 1 onion, rough chopped
  • 1 green pepper, rough chopped

Soak breasts in soda for 8-12 hours and then in soy sauce for an additional 12-16 hours before skewering breasts and veggies for grilling.

4. Marinade for Wild Game

Because any grilling recipes for Labor Day can be improved with a great marinade.


  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • 3T. minced onions
  • 1T. garlic powder
  • 3T. mango chutney

Let most wild game marinate for 6-8 hours. Game birds should only marinate for 2-3 hours.

5. Montana Burgers


  • 2 packs venison, elk, moose or beef, shaped into patties
  • Seasoned sea salt
  • BBQ sauce
  • Pepper
  • Hamburger buns
  • Cheese patties

Brush meat patties liberally with sauce and seasonings before grilling.

6. Elk Chili

A great way to ensure that left over grilled game does not go to waste.


  • 1lb. Elk, venison or moose
  • 1cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 T. chipotle chili powder
  • 2 t. ground cumin
  • 2 t. oregano
  • ½ t. salt
  • 2-14.5oz cans of diced tomatoes with juice
  • 2 -14oz cans beef broth
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 scallions, chopped

Mix liquid ingredients, add meat and bring to a boil. Next, add spices and beans, bring to a boil and allow to simmer without the lid for one hour. Serve with shredded cheese and sour cream.

7. Rut Hut Rolls


  • Deer minute steaks, elk back strap pounded flat, or stag cutlets
  • 1 cup vinaigrette dressing
  • 12 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 scallions, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
  • 12 ounces bacon

Soak meat in vinaigrette dressing overnight. Place chunk of cream cheese, onion and pepper along strip of meat. Roll, wrap in bacon and secure with skewer before grilling.
